Demons, Power still on the lookout: Coach hunt continues

WHO will lead this year's grand finalists in the Warrnambool and District Football Netball League next season is still a mystery, with Timboon Demons and Kolora-Noorat yet to appoint coaches.

The two clubs are narrowing down their search for a leader after premiership coach Adam Matheson and Power coach Daniel Beard stepped down after this year's grand final.

Timboon Demons president Mick Hunt said the club was sorting through applications. "We advertised so now we're going through the selection process," he said. "There's been good interest."

Hunt said playing and non-playing coaches were being considered.

"We are not specifying which one we want," he said. "We have retained most of our players and possibly will have a couple of additions so we want someone who will steer us in the right direction, which could be a playing or non-playing coach."

Kolora-Noorat president Gerard Justin said his club also had people in mind.

"We won't be taking much longer," he said. "We might know in a couple of weeks."

Justin believed Beard would still line up with the Power next year.

"I understand at this stage he will but there is a few things he has to weigh up," he said. "We'd love for him to stay around of course." Merrivale, which finished fourth, are also yet to appoint a coach after Jess Densley decided not to continue.

"It was planned to be a two-year commitment but I just don't have the time to do it again," said Densley, who expects he will also take a break from playing.

Nirranda and Allansford are also carrying out selection processes for coaches after Adam Mason, of the Blues and Cats coach Shane Steel stepped down.

Deakin University will discuss who will take charge in 2009 at a meeting on the weekend.

Four faces will grace the middle of their huddles again, with Dennington's Travis Thornton, Panmure's Dave Conheady, Russells Creek's Paul Butters and South Rovers' Brett Evans reappointed.

East Warrnambool secretary Robin Konigson is confident Joey Chatfield will lead the Bombers again.

"We're hoping to announce confirmation of that and the appointment of an assistant coach at our AGM on October 22," he said.

Anthony Wright will fly solo for Old Collegians after his partner in crime this season, co-coach Jay Everall, stepped down.

"He'll continue on as a player, he just won't be coaching because of family and work commitments," Warriors president Ashley Porra said.
