UNDER 15 Warrnambool and District Cricket Association (WDCA) matches are likely to stay scheduled on Monday nights despite concerns they clash with basketball.
The association is offering clubs an alternative, however, with general manager Keith Ellerton saying games could be rescheduled if both teams agree.
The issue was discussed at an executive meeting on Monday night.
"There was confirmation at last night's meeting that it was unlikely the draw will be changed," Ellerton said yesterday.
"However, as we explained to the clubs, if their opponent is in agreeance, the game can be played on another night at a venue to be decided. It can be whatever night they choose.
"This gives clubs the opportunity to sort out their own difficulties."
Russells Creek Cricket Club complained to the WDCA when the matches were switched from the usual Friday nights to Monday nights.
President Glenn Kelson, who did not want youngsters to have to choose between basketball and cricket, said it would be easier if the matches were scheduled on Friday.
The WDCA's reason for the switch was to avoid player burn-out.
"We went to Monday night instead of Friday night to try and alleviate the problem of young fellows playing on Friday night (in under 15s), Saturday morning (in under 17s) and Saturday afternoon (in seniors)," Ellerton said.
"We are aware that issues arise because of the change but we have to make decisions with the majority of clubs in mind, not individual clubs."
Kelson did not believe player burn-out was a problem.
"There won't be a great deal of under 15 kids playing under 17s on the Saturday," he said.
"If kids do show potential, then they won't play under 15s.
He said the issue of juniors playing more than one game was "something we've coped with for 30-odd years".
The issue will be discussed further at the junior committee meeting on Monday night.
WDCA's under 15 competition begins October 20.
