FINISH top five in the Victorian Super Sprint Series, be more consistent and another home victory at Simpson Speedway.
Sprintcar driver Tim Rankin has spent the past few months making a to-do list, with those three tasks high on his agenda ahead of this weekend's opening round of the Victorian Super Sprint Series.
The 20-year-old is hoping to back up the performance of his debut season, in which he won a feature race, qualified into both nights of the Grand Annual Classic and was judged rookie of the year.
"The focus (for this season) is to concentrate on the Victorian Super Sprint Series," he said.
"I finished seventh overall in the point standings of the Victorian Super Sprint Series last season so I'm looking to improve on that and get inside the top five overall."
Rankin - who will also contest selected rounds of the Grand Annual Classic, World Series, Victorian Title and Kings Challenge - will race at Avalon Raceway on Saturday night.
He plans to use last season's car - with a 372ci engine - until his new Cool chassis with a 410ci powerplant is ready to go.
"There is no rush to jump into the new car and we will be using it when we feel necessary, maybe halfway through the season," he said.
"I had a real good finish to last season and the car was going great, so there is no real need to change just yet.
"One thing I'm looking forward to though is using the 410 engine, as that will give me more up-and-go off the starts and out of the corners."
Apart from a top-five finish, Rankin has two more goals in mind.
"One area that I'm really looking to improve on is being a more consistent runner all season long and I feel that with more seat time and what I learned from last season, I can achieve that," he said.
"Also, after winning my debut feature race in sprintcars at my home track of Simpson Speedway last season, that is something that I want to do again.
"That was such a wonderful feeling, being able to win in front of all my family, friends, and sponsors."
Gates at Avalon open at 3pm while engine starts and hot laps are at 6pm. Racing starts 7pm.
