NEW ZEALAND recovered from a terrible start to post a respectable 9-212 in the one-day international against Bangladesh at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Jacob Oram staged a remarkable rearguard action by hitting a swashbuckling 75 from 62 balls. He plundered five fours and four sixes in his innings.

Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful won the toss and sent New Zealand into bat.

The home team bristled with confidence after it stunned New Zealand in the first match, winning by seven wickets to go 1-0 up in the three-match series.

Bangladesh kept the same side that won the team's first-ever match against New Zealand, while the visitors brought in off spinner Jeetan Patel for paceman Mark Gillespie.

The Kiwis found the conditions hard going; at one stage they were scoring at just 3.79 runs an over.

Syed Rasel tortured the New Zealanders with a miserly 10-over spell that produced three wickets for 23 runs.
